Bus plunge into River and killed 12 in india

According to the police in the area   the  bus had plunged into a river in western India after smashing through a bridge railing, killing 12 people and injuring another three. Police officer Anil Shinde says the accident took place on Friday night when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Kolhapur, a town in Maharashtra state. The area is nearly 375 kilometres (235 miles) south of Mumbai, the state capital. Shinde says the bus has been pulled out of the river and all passengers accounted for. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. More than 110,000 people are killed annually on India's roads. Most crashes are attributed to reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.

President Buhari sign 8 new bill into law

President Buhari Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, after the President assented to the bills.  The major bills signed into law is the Legislative Houses (Power and Privileges), Act 2018. The Act grants members of Legislative Houses in the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly immunity from litigation for actions taken in plenary or committee proceedings of the House or committee.  According to Enang, the law is meant to strengthen the power of the legislators to carry out their legislative functions. . The powers include powers to summon any person to appear before her, give evidence, including power of an officer of the legislative House to arrest any person who commits an offence against the Act. Mourinho who had won many trophies in his first season at Old Trafford said  "I am really honoured and proud to be Manchester United manager. I would like to say a big thank you to the owners and to Mr Woodward for the recognition of my hard work and dedication," Mourinho said. The movement is currently being coordinated by a former governor of Osun State, Prtince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who is along-standing associate of Obasanjo. In order to manage possible ripples that may arise in the process of establishing leadership structures, the movement has opted to appoint what it calls “spokesperson” at all levels. “Prince Oyinlola is now acting as the national spokesman; such roles would be appointed at all levels, including state, senatorial zones, down to ward level,” said a source close to the secretariat. South African jazz music Legend Hugh Masekela has died at the age of 78 after adecade-long fight with cancer, accordingto a statement from his family on Tuesday (Jan.23).  HughMasekela often called the“Father of South African jazz,” died in Johannesburg after what his family said was a“protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer.” Trumpeter, singer and composer Masekela, affectionately known locally as“Bra Hugh,”started playing the horn at 14 and quickly became an integral part of the 1950s jazz scene in Johannesburg as amember of the Jazz Epistles. Former president olusegu Obasanjo bags P.H.D on Christian Theology

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) will today, (Saturday) award a doctorate in Christian Theology to former President Olusegun Obasanjo The former president is among 14, 771 persons receiving honours at the university’s seventh convocation in Abuja, Vice-Chancellor Abdallah Adamu said. The retired general is NOUN’s first Ph.D graduate. But when PREMIUM TIMES asked Mr. Obasanjo on Saturday morning whether he would now prefer to be called “Dr. Obasanjo” in a fitting tribute to his latest academic achievement, the former leader said “No”. He said he would prefer that people continue to address him as “Chief Obasanjo” a title he adopted after dropping the prefix “General” when he became Nigeria’s democratically elected president in 1999. The former President holds several chieftaincy titles from across the country. Explaining to PREMIUM TIMES why he does not want to be described with the “Dr” title, Mr. Obasanjo said, “I think I prefer to remain as ‘Chief Olusegun Obasanj
