Home base super eagles lashes Equatoria Guinea 3:1

Nigeria started  poorly on the first half but rallied early enough in the second half to secure a 3-1 win over Equatorial Guinea. Nsi Eyama headed Equatorial Guinea into the lead in 40th minute and they held that advantage till the end of the first half. During the second half, the Super Eagles stepped up their game and just before the hour-mark, Anthony Okpotu levelled score for Nigeria through a stunning header off a cross from Osas Okoro. Dayo Ojo scored second goal for at the 69th minutes which put Nigeria on the lead while Rabiu Ali sealed victory from the penalty spot in the 81st minute. With the win, Nigeria finished as the top gun in Group C with seven points from three games, while Libya who secured a late win over Libya finished as runners-up and also qualified for the quarterfinals

The South African Jazz music Legend Hugh Masekela is Dead

South African jazz music Legend Hugh Masekela has died at the age of 78 after adecade-long fight with cancer, accordingto a statement from his family on Tuesday (Jan.23).  HughMasekela often called the“Father of South African jazz,” died in Johannesburg after what his family said was a“protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer.” Trumpeter, singer and composer Masekela, affectionately known locally as“Bra Hugh,”started playing the horn at 14 and quickly became an integral part of the 1950s jazz scene in Johannesburg as amember of the Jazz Epistles. In a caree spanning more than five decades,Mr. Masekela gained international recognition with his distinctive Afro-jazz sound and hits such as Sowe to Blues, which served as one of the soundtracks to the anti-apartheid movement. Former president olusegu Obasanjo bags P.H.D on Christian Theology

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) will today, (Saturday) award a doctorate in Christian Theology to former President Olusegun Obasanjo The former president is among 14, 771 persons receiving honours at the university’s seventh convocation in Abuja, Vice-Chancellor Abdallah Adamu said. The retired general is NOUN’s first Ph.D graduate. But when PREMIUM TIMES asked Mr. Obasanjo on Saturday morning whether he would now prefer to be called “Dr. Obasanjo” in a fitting tribute to his latest academic achievement, the former leader said “No”. He said he would prefer that people continue to address him as “Chief Obasanjo” a title he adopted after dropping the prefix “General” when he became Nigeria’s democratically elected president in 1999.
